When many of us think of human trafficking and modern day enslavement we think of developing countries far from home. However, traffickers operate around the globe. This includes wealthy countries like the United States.

Moreover, in the US, trafficking is not confined to major urban areas like New York City, Atlanta, or Washington DC. It also takes place in quiet locations like the small town of Portsmouth, Ohio. Located just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, Portsmouth is a rural Rust Belt community. There have been rumors of local corruption, abuse of power, and sex trafficking in this community for years.
