Buy fair trade wine for National Wine Day!

In April of 2017, the New York Times published a story exposing the modern day slavery that exists in Italy’s wine industry. The report focused on a woman named Paola Clemente, a woman who spent 12 hours a day sorting table grapes for 27 euros a day. Clemente suffered a heart attack at the age of 49 as a result of her hard labor. Her death helped launch an investigation into what Italian authorities are referring to as an “elaborate system of modern day slavery,”—involving more than 40,000 Italian women and migrant/seasonal workers.
