Modern day enslavement affects approximately 40 million people worldwide. Migrants are particularly at risk. They often incur very high debts in order to fund their journeys and no not have the proper paperwork upon arrival in a new country. 

As a result, many migrants end up working for little to no pay growing and picking crops, sewing clothing, or manufacturing laptops. Some fall prey to sex traffickers. The detention centers themselves are also often sites of forced labor
