Barbara Amaya fled an abusive household at age 12. After living on the streets of Washington, DC she was taken in by a seemingly caring couple. They ended up betraying Amaya and sold her to traffickers. After years of being forced to sell her body Amaya managed to escape while in New York. Now she fights for other victims of human trafficking. She is particularly interested in keeping victims from being treated as criminals.
Amaya is an anti-trafficking advocate, speaker, trainer, author, and survivor leader in the movement to end modern-day enslavement. She is a Senior Technical Adviser at SeraphimGlobal, and has been actively raising awareness of the sexual exploitation of children and domestic sex trafficking since 2012. Survivors like her demonstrate that all of us, even the most vulnerable among us, are capable of great things.
