History

Hope for Children is a local Ethiopian NGO that was established in November 2000 in response to the staggering AIDS pandemic and its related problems. The organization provides community-based care and support to the growing number of rejected children and disintegrating family structures caused by HIV/AIDS. Hope for Children provides essential services to children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and caregivers who are located in Addis Ababa and Babile. We now care and support for over 600 children in Addis Ababa and the eastern part of Ethiopia.

Starting in 2015, Hope for Children (HFC) focused on the prevention of unsafe migration to the Middle East of young women and girls in six woredas (districts) of Addis Ketema. HFC’s specific objective is to prevent returnee women and girls from being re-trafficked by supporting their empowerment and access to support networks. HFC works to enable improved income of households of low-income returnee young women and girls through self-help groups, income generating support and vocational training. HFC works to strengthen the collaboration and engagement of community-based organizations, including iddirs, faith-based groups and youth and women associations, in the issue of safer migration and protection of returnees and at-risk women.
