The June 2019 arrest of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein has brought the issue of human trafficking into the news again. It is a good time to talk about how to refer to the victims and survivors of this evil.

Since its inception in 2004, Kolkata Sanved has worked in partnership with 30 organizations across South Asia including community organizations, civil society networks, rights groups and government institutions. We conduct sessions in shelter homes, hospitals, government institutions, schools and on railway platforms. Working in partnership with local and international organizations, we have implemented our program in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Indonesia. Kolkata Sanved’s international creative initiative Transforming Steps unites Living Lens U.K, Sadler’s Wells U.K., Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company U.K and Thou Art Yoga Foundation Trinidad to “Stand with Survivors of Sex Trafficking, Stand Against Exploitation.’’ Bringing together artists, choreographesr, film-makers and development organizations, it speaks against sex trafficking and exploitation. The initiative marks a diversity of life experience and real life stories expressed in a thought provoking performance incorporating dance and film.
